Rewrite URL so that users don't have to type in port number

I apologize, but I don's see anything that clearly explains how to do this.

I have a website that is accessible from the internet using http://mysite.mydomain.com:8080

Users cannot use http://mysite.mydomain.comat the moment. We would like users to be able to access the website without the port numbers.

I have already created a rewrite rule using the wizard, but it is not working. Just need to know what should be going were when setting this up.
